Sixth Consecutive Victory

Sixth victory of the season, this Sunday at home against Palafrugell, a very tough rival that we had not been able to beat for several years.

Despite playing at home, the team was playing the match with important absences; such as JJ, Jesús, Alexander and Georgi; and when we saw the lineups of both teams, we could confirm that we were inferior in Elo on all boards.

However, the match started very evenly and, after two hours of play, the score was 3-3, with the victory of the honorary president of the club, Don Albert Robert - who at 88 years old continues to bring us joy - and the draws of Carles, Manel, Toni and Daniel.

The remaining four games, also very close, promised maximum excitement. We felt slightly superior in two and slightly inferior in the other two. One of these latter games, however, ended masterfully with a victory for Lev Shustov, making it 4-3 and leaving the team with good prospects.

Next, in the other game, Albert Olivas—undefeated this season—found a brilliant way to force a draw and bring the score to 4.5-3.5, after a game played with great solidity and precision. Finally, the two remaining games, which initially seemed slightly in their favor, ended with victories for Sergii and Biel, establishing an incredible 6.5-3.5—their biggest win of the year—precisely on the day everything seemed most difficult.

It is worth highlighting Biel's magnificent results this year, who has accumulated 5 points in 6 games played, without any defeat and has so far accumulated a spectacular rise of 104.80 Elo points.

Overall, the team's results in 2026 have been fantastic: 6 points out of a possible 7, with two games remaining.

Club Escacs Lloret, currently second in the Catalan Chess League for Teams, has already secured at least fourth place in the standings, setting a new club record for the second year running. Their best-ever result was a sixth-place finish in the Preferente division in the 2025 season. The team's objective now is to fight for second or third place and bring another trophy home.

Next week the team will travel to Playa de Aro to play against the reserve team of this strong club, which is currently third in the standings. Meanwhile, Lloret B begins its playoff campaign and will play at home against Gerunda H, the second-placed team in the Central group.
