Another surprise from Lloret and heading to the promotion final!
The Club d'Escacs Lloret first team has provided one of the big surprises of the promotion play-off by decisively winning 3.5 to 6.5 against the strong Colon
Sabadell B in the semifinal played this Sunday in Vallès Occidental.
The match, which initially seemed very complicated against an opponent with a very
solid and experienced team, ended up clearly in favor of the Lloret players thanks to a very serious and competitive collective performance.
Although the match started with a 3.5-1.5 deficit, with two losses and three draws
achieved by JJ Mateo, Albert Olivas and Biel Castellanos against opponents with higher ELO, it was on the last board where Bastian Suazo, at just 13 years old and making his debut this season with the first team, delivered the first significant blow with a valuable and spectacular victory against an opponent with more than 400 ELO points than him, setting the pace for the rest of his teammates. Georgi Stoykov and Jesús Urresti also scored full points, putting the score at 3.5-4.5.
However, the match was still difficult, as, after tie-break analysis, a 5-5 score would have meant Colon Sabadell B would qualify. Nevertheless, the Lloret players did not feel the pressure, and Erik Juez secured their passage to the final with a beautiful victory. Finally, Carles Jordà also took the point on the first board in a very disputed match, leaving the score at 3.5-6.5.
With this result, Lloret not only overcomes a very demanding elimination round, but also sends a clear message: this team is ready to compete at the highest level and fight for promotion. Now, the Lloret team faces the grand play-off final with enthusiasm and confidence, aware that they are just one step away from achieving a historic and completely unthinkable feat at the start of the season.
Congratulations to all the players for this great triumph and good luck next
Sunday!
