Lloret de Mar hosts the 2025 Catalan Age Group Championships

The 2025 Catalan Individual Chess Championship by Age Groups was held from April 12th to 17th in Lloret de Mar, specifically at the Guitart Central Park Aqua Resort Hotel. The event brought together the best young chess talents in Catalonia across seven age categories, from Under-8 to Under-20. Participants honed their skills in a highly competitive environment, aiming to demonstrate their abilities and achieve new successes.

From the Lloret Chess Club, we collaborated with the organization of the event, in charge of the Catalan Chess Federation, and six of the best players from Lloret participated: Lev Shustov, Sara Planas, Bastian Suazo, Olga Levina, Arnau Jimenez and Oriol Gomez, who did a good job in their debut in a championship of this size.

In addition to the main competitions, a Blitz Tournament was organized on Sunday, April 13th at 10:00 PM. This intense rapid chess tournament was open to players, coaches, and their families. The tournament was characterized by the high level of the participants, including an International Master, seven FIDE Masters, and several Catalan Masters. Of particular note was the second-place finish of our coach, FIDE Master Albert Castillo (Tres Peones).

It's important to highlight the camaraderie that prevailed throughout the week of competition, and the very positive feedback on the championship. We hope that Lloret will soon host another great championship like this one!
