Arnau Jiménez, Runner-up in the Malgrat de Mar Rapid Chess Tournament!

Last Saturday, June 13, the La Verneda-Malgrat Active Tournament was held in Malgrat de Mar, a competition that brought together around forty young chess players from different clubs in the Girona and Barcelona regions.

Club d'Escacs Lloret was represented by two players, who put in a good performance over the seven rounds of competition.

The highlight was the excellent result of Arnau Jiménez, who achieved a brilliant second place in the overall classification with a total of 6 points out of a possible 7. Arnau remained in the top positions throughout the day and was only behind the tournament winner, Izan Santos Bernabé, an U18 player from Club d'Escacs La Verneda de Malgrat. Interestingly, both players repeated the same result they had already obtained in the last Josep Xapellí Memorial.

To highlight this achievement, it should be noted that Arnau is an U12 player and, therefore, he surpassed several older participants to achieve this meritorious runner-up position.

Alex Teixeira also participated, scoring half of the points available and continuing to gain competitive experience in these types of junior circuit tournaments.
